Shadhika is managed by an all-volunteer board of directors headed by founder Juthica Stangl. Shadhika’s Board members cover all expenses including administrative, publicity and fund-raising efforts allowing Shadhika to continue as a “zero overhead” organization.

Retired psychiatric social worker. Involved in numerous volunteer organizations, serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Committee of International Students (CCIS) of Stanford, and teaches cooking at the International Center.

Usha Sekar, President
Usha Sekar, a long time Los Altos resident, is an entrepreneur and has been a senior software executive in local companies. She is currently involved in a web application company supporting education. She and her family (husband, son and daughter) actively support various community efforts in India and the Bay Area.
Monika Agarwal, Board Member
Monika Agarwal has a strong background within the business community, currently working in commercial banking. For the last 5 years, she has actively supported various non-profit organizations and NGOs by raising funds. She holds a Masters in Business Administration from California State University, San Francisco.
Reema Batta, Board Member
Cliff Colvin, Board Member
Formerly of Palo Alto and San Francisco, Cliff is now a Realtor in Honolulu, Hawaii for Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties. He has been actively involved with Shadhika since 1998 and prior to that was a founding board member of another “no overhead” charity, The Academy of Friends, a fund raising organization dedicated to the fight against HIV.
Julie Basu, Board Member
Julie Basu is from Kolkata. She is interested in the welfare and empowerment of under-priviledged women and children. Julie is a computer scientist by profession, with a PhD from Stanford University.
Mary Buttner, Board Member
Mary Buttner is a Digital Materials Manager for Lane Library at Stanford University Medical Center. She is a long time friend and supporter of Shadhika and holds degrees from both Stanford and Berkeley.
Amita Dhawan, Board Member
Jeanne Schapp, Board Member
Jeanne received her BA in French and Art History from San Diego State University and a Secondary Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University in French and German. After teaching briefly, Jeanne worked for Visa International for 16 years, initially as a technical writer/trainer, and later moving into the areas of strategic planning and project management. Now retired, Jeanne is an advocate of human rights and, in particular, supports a number of organizations that work to empower women and children in developing countries. Jeanne is also active in the local arts community and especially enjoys spending time in her art studio at the Redwood City Art Center, where she works in oils and mixed media and continues to experiment and pursue the creative process.
Maureen Sheehan, Board Member
Maureen Sheehan is a nurse practitioner in Pediatric Neurology and Epilepsy at Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, and the mother of two. She is past treasurer and president of Parents Nursery School in Palo Alto. She has had a life-long interest in the health and welfare of mothers and children as well as all things Indian.
